Insight Team

Alex Crisses is a managing director at Insight and focuses on infrastructure software and internet investments. He has served on the Board of Directors of GFI Software, Ticket Monster, TeamViewer, 6Waves LOLapps, and Jagex Limited. Alex also invests in online gaming and "freemium" software companies. Alex sourced and worked with Solarwinds Inc.,  from Insight's initial investment all the way to Solarwind's IPO (NASDAQ: SWI). Alex also sourced and led Insight's investments in GFI Software and TeamViewer where he oversaw the merger of the two companies and spearheaded the acquisition of Hounddog Technologies to create GFI Max. Alex was also involved in the acquisitions of both ScriptLogic Corporation and Imceda Software by Quest Software. Additionally, he led the firm's investment in group-buying company Ticket Monster which, at the time of acquisition by Living Social, was the leader in Korea. Alex has further played a significant role in Insight's investments in Nexon, CVent, Acronis, Parallels, and Wix.

Alex is a key mentor of new team members at Insight. He is part of the management team that oversees Insight's analyst recruiting and training program and assists with candidate selection and new employee on-boarding.

Prior to joining Insight, Alex worked as an investment banking Analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston's Global Energy and Power Group. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business with a BS in Economics, receiving the Dean's Award for Excellence. He earned an MBA with High Distinction from Harvard Business School where he graduated as a Baker Scholar. Alex resides in New York with his wife and daughter.

Deven Parekh is a managing director at Insight Venture Partners and joined the firm in 2000. Deven invests in e-commerce and internet companies globally, in addition to his investments in data and application software businesses. Notable previous companies in Deven's portfolio have included Football Fanatics (acquired by GSI Commerce, later acquired by eBay), Media Mind (IPO), Procuri (acquired by Ariba, NASDAQ: ARBA), Russian Trading System (merged with MICEX) and Website Pros (IPO). Deven is a strong supporter of inorganic growth, and, among others, has assisted ECi Solutions with eleven acquisitions, and Chegg with three. Deven is a global investor, actively working with investments in China, India and Russia.

Deven was previously a Principal at Berenson Minella & Company, a New York based merchant banking firm where he served on the firm's M&A Committee. Prior to Berenson Minella, Deven was with The Blackstone Group, where he was involved in both M&A advisory and principal activities.

Deven was part of a US delegation of several investors, government representatives and technology companies, that visited Russia to explore investment and technology collaboration opportunities between the United States and Russia. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of the U.S. Export-Import Bank which is the official export credit agency of the United States. He is also a Member of the Technical Advisory Council of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which assists the Commission with developing informed technology policies supporting America's competitiveness and job creation in the global economy. In 2006, Deven was named a Henry Crown Fellow of The Aspen Institute, which seeks to develop the next generation of community-spirited leaders.

Deven received a BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Deven is Chairman of the Board of Publicolor, a New York City-based non-profit organization that uses color, collaboration, design and the painting process to re-engage disaffected students in their education, schools and communities.

Jeff Horing has been a co-founder and managing director at Insight Venture Partners since 1995. Under his leadership Insight has become a premier venture capital and private equity firm focused on growth investments in software and internet businesses, currently investing from a $2 billion fund. Jeff's areas of focus include mobile, online gaming, data, infrastructure and internet software. Jeff is a former member of the board of directors of Airborne Entertainment (acquired by Cybird Co.), CTSpace (acquired by Sword Group), Beechwood Data Systems (acquired by Cap Gemini), Greenfield Online (IPO, later acquired by Microsoft), Hitwise (acquired by Experian Group Ltd), IAG Research (acquired by The Nielsen Company), ProMira Software (acquired by Manugistics), SLP Infoware (acquired by Gemplus), Solarwinds Inc., (IPO) and Xchange (IPO acquired by Amdocs).

Jeff currently serves on the board of directors of GFI Software (security & messaging), Jagex Ltd (online gaming), Mentez (online social games publisher), 6Waves (online social games), Datacore Software (storage virtualization), SolarWinds  (network monitoring), Teamviewer (remote desktop collaboration), WIX (free DIY flash-based websites) and Zumba (global fitness and lifestyle brand).

Prior to founding Insight, Jeff was a key member of the technology investing team at Warburg Pincus. Earlier in his career he worked at Goldman Sachs in the Capital Markets group.

Jeff holds an MBA from the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management. He has dual undergraduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Engineering and Wharton School, where he graduated with high honors and was Phi Beta Kappa. Jeff is a regular speaker at Wharton as part of the Distinguished Guest speaker series.

Jeff Lieberman is a managing director at Insight Venture Partners. He joined the firm in 1998 and has worked extensively with consumer internet and application software companies. Jeff has achieved successful exits of multiple eCommerce and software companies. Notable among these are Daily Deal (acquired by Google), GetPaid (acquired by SunGard Systems), Hautelook (acquired by Nordstrom), Paisley (acquired by Thomson Reuters), Nistevo (acquired by Sterling Software), Cadence (merged with AdvantageIQ, now Ecova), Procuri (acquired by Ariba), TicketMonster (acquired by Living Social), and Website Pros (IPO). He currently serves on the board or oversees Insight's investments in Shutterstock, Karmaloop, Threadless, HotelUrbano, Cvent, Ecova, Dealfind, Trivago, Elo7 and HealthcareSource.

Prior to joining Insight, Jeff was a management consultant at McKinsey & Co, where he focused on strategic and operating issues in the financial services, technology and consumer products industries. Earlier in his career, Jeff worked as a systems consultant for K-Line Trucking, optimizing intermodal transportation networks.

Jeff received dual degrees in systems engineering and finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Engineering and Wharton School of Business, respectively, where he graduated with honors.

Larry Handen is a managing partner at Insight Venture Partners and has more than 20 years of experience in the software, Internet, and technology services industries as a principal investor, operator and consultant. Over the course of his career, Larry has been involved as a principal investor in over 125 M&A and equity financing transactions, and served on the Board of Directors of more than 30 companies throughout the Americas, Eastern and Western Europe and Australia.  Additionally, he has advised over 100 other companies in various capacities.

Some of Larry’s former portfolio companies include Primavera (acquired by Oracle), Greenfield Online (IPO acquired by Microsoft), Netsmart (acquired by Genstar Financial), Guardant (acquired by VeriSign), DivX (IPO acquired by Rovi), Commvault (IPO), Entercept (acquired by MacAfee) and Dynamicsoft (acquired by Cisco).

Prior to joining Insight, Larry was a Managing Director at VantagePoint Venture Partners and a General Partner at UBS Capital where he led the firm’s Internet, Software & Services Group. Prior to joining UBS Capital, he was a Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting (PwC), now IBM Global Services. While at PwC, Larry led a practice specializing in corporate-wide growth and recovery solutions for companies in the technology, information, communications and entertainment industries.

Larry received a BA in Economics and Political Science from Bucknell University and a MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business. He currently serves on the Board of the New York Venture Capital Association.

Michael Triplett is a managing partner and joined Insight in 1998. Mike focuses on investments in Infrastructure and Application Software companies; he has been instrumental in investments in more than twenty companies, many of which have achieved fast growth and realized significant value for shareholders and employees. Notable among these are the IPOs of Click Commerce, Solarwinds Inc., and Quest Software and the acquisitions of Aelita Software, Authorize.net, Imceda Software and ScriptLogic. Recently Mike has invested in several companies in Brazil, in addition to his investments in Europe and the United States.

Prior to joining Insight, Mike was an investment professional at Summit Partners, where he focused on investments in infrastructure and enterprise application software companies. Previously in his career, Mike worked as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co. and at Midland Data Systems.

Mike graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College with a BA in Economics. 

Peter Sobiloff joined Insight Venture Partners as Managing Director in 1998, bringing to the firm 20 years of operational experience in executive leadership positions, sales management and worldwide operations.  Peter was President of Think Systems, an Insight portfolio company focused on supply chain management, which was acquired by i2 Technologies in 1997; thereafter Peter served as Vice President of Business Development at i2 Technologies.  Prior to this Peter was President of Datalogix, a vendor of enterprise application software for process manufacturers. He also held senior executive roles at Ross Systems, a provider of financial application software.  Peter was part of the management teams that executed IPOs for both companies. Subsequently, as President of Datalogix, Peter led the sale of Datalogix to Oracle corporation.

Peter is a well-known executive in the software industry and regularly speaks on industry panels.  He served as Chairman of Greenfield Online (NASDAQ: SRVY) for six years, including three years as a public company.   He was a member of the Board of Directors of Medidata Solutions (NASDAQ:  MDSO) for seven years, the final two as a public company.   He graduated from Baruch University with a degree in Business Administration.

In his role as investor, Peter specializes in mentoring management teams to foster technological change in existing markets in order to produce greater productivity and deliver incremental value to customers. Peter enjoys working to create successful liquidity events that positively change the lives of entrepreneurs and employees.

Richard Wells has over 12 years of experience in investing and advising managers of high growth software and Internet companies.  He currently serves on the boards of BeyondTrust, Enigma, HealthcareSource, Kinnser, Metalogix, PHD Virtual and Smartbear Software and is active with the boards of Buddy Media and Zumba Fitness.  Richard previously served on the boards of Netsmart Technologies (acquired by Genstar Capital) and Primavera (acquired by Oracle).

Richard joined Insight in 2005 after previously serving as an investment team member at Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), with a focus on software, online media and e-commerce.  Richard also worked in product management for enterprise data protection products at Veritas Software (now part of Symantec), and in field sales for Paciolan Systems (now part of Ticketmaster).  He began his career as a management consultant with Mercer Management Consulting, where he advised global technology companies on their marketing and business strategies.

Richard received a BS from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude) and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.  He grew up in Southern California and resides in Manhattan with his wife and son.  Thanks to his father's New England roots, Richard is an avid Boston Red Sox fan and is already having a lot of fun making his son one too.

Ryan Hinkle joined Insight in 2003.  Ryan has worked across many industries, geographies and deal structures, spanning internet, e-commerce, infrastructure and application software companies in Europe, Australia and North America. Ryan's investments include growth equity, leverage buyouts, growth buyouts, and platform roll-ups. Ryan oversaw the investments and later acquisitions of Argus Software (acquired by Altus Group Ltd), Football Fanatics (acquired by GSI Commerce, now eBay) and Punch! Software (acquired by Navarre Corporation). Ryan works closely with the executive management of his investments and has stepped in as deputy-CFO on several occasions to help the teams. Ryan is also a key manager of the Analyst program at Insight with responsibility for recruiting, training, and mentoring.

Prior to Insight, Ryan began his journey as a lifelong technology enthusiast by developing real-time electricity trading productivity tools with PPL Corporation. Ryan also worked with Morgan Stanley where he observed trader behavior and built software tools to increase their efficiency.

Ryan is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with degrees in Finance from Wharton and Electrical Engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science.   Originally from rural southeastern Pennsylvania, he has spent the past 9 years living in New York City with his wife, Sara and his son.  In New York, they enjoy cycling, attending Broadway shows, experimenting with new restaurants, and exploring museums.  Ryan’s other interests include Philadelphia sports, HBO original series, meandering through his Twitter feeds, juggling, origami, and number theory.

Bradley Twohig joined Insight in 2005 and focuses primarily on high growth internet, new media, and SaaS companies. He has been involved in over a dozen investments at Insight and currently serves as Insight's board member or lead shareholder representative at Trivago GmbH, HotelUrbano and Dawanda GmbH. Other investments that Brad has played a role in include 6waves, Achieve3000, Cvent, Datacore, Dawanda, Dealfind, Elo7, Nexon, OverDrive, and Ozsale.

Brad's previous investments include DailyDeal GmbH (acquired by Google), Hautelook (acquired by Nordstrom), COADE (acquired by Intergraph). Prior to joining Insight, Brad worked at Yahoo! In business development on the search and marketplace team.  In addition, Brad was a co-founder and partner at Locus Consulting, a small consulting firm focused on helping SMBs in the Philadelphia area.

Brad received his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business.  He is an avid world traveler and enjoys spending time in other countries. He also stays active by regularly golfing, running, surfing, and skiing depending on the season.

Martin Angert has been with Insight since 2005. He focuses primarily on investments in infrastructure software, internet, and software-enabled services companies. He has worked closely with several current and former Insight portfolio companies and has helped lead investments in North and South America, Europe and Asia. Most recently, he managed the merger of Russian Trading System and MICEX, to form the largest equity and derivatives exchange in Russia. 

Prior to joining Insight, Martin was a developer in J.P. Morgan's Application Delivery division, where he helped develop proprietary auto-trading and market analysis platforms.

Martin received dual-degrees from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and its School of Engineering and Applied Science, graduating summa cum laude in Finance, Management, and Computer Science. He remains actively involved with the University as an alumnus. While at the University of Pennsylvania, Martin was a member of the school's hockey team, and although he no longer plays on a daily basis, he gets his weekly dose of competition by participating in several New York-based intramural leagues.  Martin is fluent in Russian.

Nnamdi Okike joined Insight in 2002. He has extensive experience in the Internet and software industries as a principal investor, operator and consultant. He has worked closely with several current and former Insight portfolio companies, including Astaro (acquired by Sophos), Hitwise (acquired by Experian), DivX Networks, Privalia and Groupalia.

Nnamdi is an active investor in Brazil and has a strong interest in Brazilian entrepreneurship. He works closely with Insight’s Brazilian portfolio companies KaBum and Folhamatic.

Nnamdi previously worked in Business Development at Verne Global, an Internet data center company, and at Kayne Anderson Private Equity, a middle-market private equity fund. He began his career at the Boston Consulting Group as a management consultant.

As an investor, Nnamdi enjoys working with entrepreneurs who are pioneering innovative business models. He also takes pride in helping entrepreneurs achieve their business and life goals.

Nnamdi graduated with a dual JD/MBA from Harvard University, receiving his J.D. with cum laude Honors and his MBA with Second-Year Honors. Nnamdi received his BA degree, with Honors, also from Harvard University. He was a recipient of the John Harvard Scholarship. Nnamdi was a track and field athlete at Harvard University, competing in the 400 and 800 meters. He is an avid Boston sports fan.

Bryan Gartner joined Insight in 2007. Prior to joining Insight, he served as Chief Financial Officer for The Foundation for Student Communication, a student owned business-oriented magazine and conference program out of Princeton University, and worked in the CFO's office at Butler International, a public outsourcing and engineering services firm.

A graduate from Princeton University's School of Engineering and Applied Science, Bryan earned a degree in Operations Research and Financial Engineering, with minors in Applied and Computational Mathematics and Engineering Management Systems.

Daniel Francis joined Insight in 2007. He previously worked at Shunra Software (an Insight portfolio company) as a business analyst conducting customer analytics. He was also formerly an internet marketing researcher at the Operations and Information Management of the Wharton School of Business.

Dan graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business with a BS in Economics. He is also an avid outdoorsman and enjoys fishing, hiking, biking and running.

Elodie Dupuy joined Insight in 2008. At Insight, Elodie focuses on investments in Europe and South America and is fluent in French, Spanish, German, and Portuguese. She is currently learning Chinese to work with entrepreneurs at Insight's China-based investments.

Elodie graduated with honors and distinction from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of French and a Bachelors of German. Elodie has been a competitive gymnast for over 20 years and enjoys movies, reading, painting and playing the piano.

Jessica Ma joined Insight in 2009. Prior to Insight, Jessica started a small e-commerce business focusing on a student demographic. Before that, she worked with Bank of the West in the real estate industry's division. She has been active in technology research with Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society and the Harvard School of Engineering’s entrepreneurship and innovation-focused activities. At Insight, Jessica is active in the firm's international investments such as 360Buy (China), Whitney International University Systems (Latin America), and Ozsale (Singapore, Australia and New Zealand).

Jessica graduated from Harvard College with honors with a Degree in Economics.

Joshua Roberts joined Insight in 2009.  He previously served as a member on the Board of Trustees for Rockland Community College and is a volunteer fireman at Suffern Fire Department, a position he has held for over 6 years. Joshua is a certified interior fireman and has completed training in hazardous materials response, WMD response, and extrication operations.

Joshua graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Arts & Sciences, earning a degree in Political Science. His senior honors thesis, titled “The Path to Victory: Counterinsurgency Operations in Iraq” was published by the United States Army Combined Arms Center. Joshua, a lifelong New Yorker, has been a die-hard Yankees/Giants fan for as long as he can remember.

Michael Mure joined Insight in 2009.  Prior to joining Insight, he worked in the Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch, which services the needs of ultra-high net worth clients.  In addition, he has operated an independent music business since 2004.

Michael graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Economics.  He is an avid fan of basketball and hip-hop.  He is also an active participant in Insight's dodgeball team, which has won its league championship twice.

Mario Ponticello joined Insight in 2010.  Prior to Insight, Mario managed affiliate relationships and business development at RJMetrics Inc., a business intelligence software developer.

Mario graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics, concentrating in Finance and Management, and with a minor in English.  He was a member of the university’s varsity fencing team, which won the Ivy League Championship in 2009. Mario speaks Japanese.

Matt Brennan joined Insight in 2010. He previously worked for Merrill Lynch’s Private Client Group, which is responsible for servicing the investment needs of high net worth individuals. He also worked as a teaching assistant for the Chairperson of the Finance Department at the Wharton School of Business. Matt graduated with high honors from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Economics.

Matt Gatto joined Insight in 2010. Previously he worked in the Global Infrastructure Technology group at Merrill Lynch focusing on Electronic Communications Risk Management in Electronic Communications.  Prior to this he was a team member in the PPC Advertising Optimization group at Verizon Information Services. Matt also worked in Hong Kong and Singapore on Deutsche Bank Asia’s Debt Capital Markets and Global Risk Syndicate desks.

Matt graduated with high honors from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science and a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School. Matt’s personal interests include golf and most other sports, the outdoors, trying new foods and craft brews, and travel.

Nikhil Basu Trivedi joined Insight in 2010. Prior to joining Insight, he co-founded an internet startup, Art.sy. Nikhil is the founder of a social venture, My Card My Story, and previously worked at Plug and Play Tech Center, a community of over 280 technology startups in Silicon Valley, and Firelake Capital Management, a hybrid technology investment fund. 

Nikhil holds an A.B. in Molecular Biology with a Certificate in Finance from Princeton University, where he led the Princeton Entrepreneurship Club, and won the Spirit of Princeton Award. Nikhil grew up in the UK, India, and California, and is an avid follower of soccer, cricket, tennis, and Bay Area sports teams.

Yuliya Gudish joined Insight in 2010. Prior to joining the firm, Yuliya focused on business, finance, and technology sectors within the media & entertainment industries. She previously worked with The Weinstein Company, MTV Networks, Tadcast.com, and on a multi-million dollar independent film.

Yuliya graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in Economics and a minor in Psychology. Yuliya was a competitive dancer for over 10 years and enjoys skiing, jazz vocals, film, stand-up comedy, and traveling the world. She speaks Russian fluently.

Daniel May joined Insight in 2010. He previously worked at The Daily Caller as a business analyst, conducting research in online marketing and content distribution strategy.  At Insight, Dan has been responsible for the sourcing and closing of an acquisition in Australia by a current portfolio company.

Dan graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Political Economy. In college, Dan was an avid and successful debater, achieving two trips to the World Universities Debating Championships. He is a French speaker.

Harley Miller joined Insight in 2011. He previously worked as an analyst at Lubert Adler Real Estate Funds in Philadelphia, focusing on acquisitions and asset management.

Harley graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a BS in Economics, with concentrations in both ‘International Venture Capital & Consumer-Facing Industries’ and ‘Information Management’. During his time at Wharton, Harley launched his first startup, MobileEatz – a mobile food ordering portal targeted at college campuses. Harley is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese.

Jason Fielder joined Insight in 2011. Prior to joining Insight, Jason founded and launched two consumer internet companies, one of which was named "Top Undergraduate Business" in Wharton's 2010 Business Plan Competition.

Jason graduated with high honors from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Economics. Outside of the office, Jason enjoys golf, cooking, yoga, and sports.  He is fluent in Spanish.

Matt Smalley joined Insight in 2010. He previously worked in software equity research and in the media finance industry. Matt has co-founded two companies: Supreme Sounds Productions, a private event production company, and Access Granted Entertainment, an independent film production and entertainment company.

Matt graduated with Honors from New York University’s Stern School of Business with a BS in Finance and Accounting. In addition to Insight, Matt is also a music producer and nightclub DJ in New York City, spending his free time in the studio or playing music for party-goers. He is actively involved with the emerging NY tech scene and speaks conversational Spanish.

Philip Vorobeychik joined Insight Venture Partners in 2010. Prior to joining Insight, he founded several internet ventures including a small business-focused internet services agency and a series of specialty eCommerce stores. He also spent time at TwinRed Asset Management, a hedge fund and venture capital firm based in New York.

Philip graduated with honors from Cornell University with a degree in Applied Economics and Management. Outside of work, Philip enjoys reading technology and business magazines and is an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. Philip speaks Russian.

Seamon Chan joined Insight in 2011. Before Insight, Seamon started a mobile app development company in the US. Prior to that, he worked at a game advertising startup in Europe, where he helped the company launch their US business. Seamon also helped found a social network in China, which has evolved into multiple businesses in ecommerce, payments, and location based services.  He has experience at a Citigroup hedge fund and Hitachi Data Systems, an enterprise storage provider.

Seamon has an undergraduate degree in Science, Technology, and Society from Stanford University and is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
