Two Managing Directors Top the Forbes Midas List

Deven Parekh debuts high on the Midas   List this year thanks to an early(ish) 2009 investment in Twitter (IPO 2013), as well as investments in Chegg (IPO 2013), Tumblr (acquired by Yahoo in 2103) and Flipboard. Parekh also helped steer Tumblr to its sale to Yahoo last year and scored with BuddyMedia (acquired by Salesforce for $785 million in 2012). Parekh manages investments in e-commerce, consumer internet data, and application software businesses. In 2012 Parekh led a $165 million equity investment in Drilling Info, an Austin-based data intelligence provider the for oil and gas industry. He’s on the board at Fanatics, an online retailer for sports merchandise owned by Kynetic, which also owns ShopRunner and Rue La La.

Thanks to his 2009 investment in Twitter, veteran VC Jerry Murdock makes his debut on the Midas List even though he is technically retired from the venture game. Murdock cofounded New York investment firm Insight Venture Partners in 1995 with Jeff Horing, and was managing director of the firm until April 2011. Murdock helped define the firm’s investment strategy (a hybrid of early and late stage deals) and helped develop many of the firms portfolio investments. His current portfolio includes Flipboard, Adcolony, Path, Klout, Docker, Famo.us, Hortonworks, Nest (acquired by Google in 2013 for $3.2 billion) and Truecaller. From 1988 to 1995, Mr. Murdock was a founder and director of the Aspen Technology Group. He splits his time between New York City and Aspen and is on the boards of the Santa Fe Institute and the Aspen Institute.
