Last week was a big week for the Trump Administration on IT modernization.

President Trump signed the Modernizing Government Technology Act and his Administration released the final version of its IT Modernization report.  The White House Office of American Innovation also announced an initiative to set up five new centers of excellence: cloud adoption, optimizing IT infrastructure, customer experience, service delivery analytics and contact center modernization.  The USDA signed on as the first agency to partner with the White House Office of American Innovation and the General Services Administration in this important effort.

It’s a solid report and an ambitious plan for 2018.

My advice to the Administration: look to private sector for the latest tools and technologies and learn from existing experts in government that have deployed them.  GSA already has expertise in modern customer experience analytics and the Defense Department’s DIUx has shown that it is possible to go from small software pilots to enterprise deployments quickly.
