Matthew May joined Insight in 2021 as a go-to-market strategy advisor. Matt focuses on working with Insight’s portfolio companies to remove obstacles to scale through the application of lean principles to competitive strategy formulation, rapid innovation, customer experience, and process optimization. His background spans over thirty years of frontline experience guiding senior leaders and their teams across a broad domain of companies and industries. Matt is an internationally recognized thought leader and multiple author of several bestselling and critically acclaimed books on business strategy, human-centered innovation, and lean operations.
Prior to joining Insight, Matt worked closely with Onsite’s Sales and Customer Success Center of Excellence through his strategy consulting firm Stratechia, helping over a dozen Insight portfolio teams dramatically reduce time-to-value, churn, and strategic misalignment. He is a popular keynote speaker, addressing audiences all over the world on strategy, innovation, and lean.
Prior to forming Stratechia, Matt spent nearly a decade as a fully retained advisor to Toyota, an experience that was life- and career-changing, enabling him to write his first book, the Wall Street Journal bestseller The Elegant Solution: Toyota’s Formula for Mastering Innovation (2006). He has published four additional books, and his articles have appeared In The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, The Rotman Management Magazine, and Inc. He is a staff writer for the popular Medium publication The Startup and Startup Grind. He is hard at work on his new book, What A Unicorn Knows: How Innovative Entrepreneurs Use Lean Simplicity to Scale for Growth.
Matt received his BA from Johns Hopkins University, and his MBA from The Wharton School. He lives in southern California with his wife and youngest daughter. An avid cyclist, published country songwriter, and struggling tennis player, he considers winning The New Yorker cartoon caption contest his greatest creative achievement.
